Cameroon appears to have achieved a degree of political stability and social cohesion that most of its neighbours can only envy. The same political party is in power since its independence in 1960, the centre-right RDPC (Rassemblement democratique du peuple camerounais), and the country has known only 2 presidents during that period, under a parliamentary democracy constitution.
