Ms Stejskal has 32 years’ experience in legal and environmental roles with on/offshore petroleum and onshore mineral projects where sensitivity to cultural and political issues were of prime importance. She has worked in Angola, Australia, China, Equatorial Guinea, Indonesia, Morocco and Mongolia.

Her legal experience includes providing advice on the interpretation and application of legislation and treaties, ensuring company compliance, drafting and negotiating contracts, and obtaining government approvals. In Mongolia, Iva worked for Oyu Tolgoi LLC, a copper and gold project in the Gobi region of southern Mongolia. She was involved in negotiating, drafting and researching an Investment Agreement between the Government of Mongolia and IMMI (now Oyu Tolgoi). She also spent substantial time in China assisting in negotiating a construction and production contract for a coal fired power plant.

Iva was a senior legal adviser for the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline project, an international project to carry gas from Greece, via Albania, to Italy. Her tasks included drafting inter-ministerial and host government agreements, and providing legal advice on environment and land access issues.

Prior to her legal career, Iva worked for over 15 years as a marine scientist and environmental manager in the petroleum industry in Australia and Indonesia where she established and maintained close relationships with government and community groups. At Woodside Petroleum, she developed and oversaw onshore and offshore environmental research and monitoring. As Environmental Manager for Apache Energy, she established company environmental policies, strategies and management systems for projects constructed in very environmentally and socially sensitive areas. She also prepared environmental assessments, obtained approvals and ensured compliance.

Iva has worked with several government and industry bodies: in Australia, she served on the environment committee of APPEA, developing industry wide environmental policies and strategies; and in Mongolia she was the Chairman of the Legislative Committee and member of the Tax Committee of the Business Council of Mongolia.

Iva holds a PhD in Marine Biology from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Law degree from Murdoch University. She is a keen walker and has trekked through mountains in Nepal and Ethiopia, and in late 2016 completed a 1,700 km solo walk across China.
